Your Role

Childcare program: The main aim is to help the children in their everyday tasks and encourage them to have a healthy lifestyle as well as helping in the organization of the orphanage.
Volunteers cannot only be seen as friends by the kids, they also need to be considered as educators.

Child Care Schedule:

6:00am : Bathing the younger children and getting them ready for school (uniform, breakfast). Volunteers should check that the bedrooms are tidy before the children leave for school.

7:00am : All the children have to be in school.

8:00am - 3:00pm : school time. Volunteers can use this time to develop their projects. It is also a time to prepare activities for the children together.

3:30pm – 5:30pm: After the children's chores are complete you may spend time playing activities with the children: Soccer, memory cards, coloring, origami, Simon Says, Duck Duck Goose, etc…

6:00pm : Dinner. After the activities volunteers shall bath the kids so that they are ready and clean for dinner.

7:00pm – 8:00pm : Homework and reading time.

8:30: Bedtime.

The schedule can be flexible.

Weekends: You are welcome to stay in the village and play with the kids, or you may use this time to travel the beautiful country of Ghana.

Teaching program: There are currently nine classes being taught at Sankofa Mbofra fie, Nursery through to class 7. We recognize being able to read as the gateway to learning, and therefore we encourage volunteers to teach the kids phonics, basic reading and mathematics. We advise you to bring school supplies (flashcards, books, etc…) and prepare lesson plans so that you feel more comfortable and organized.
